Secretary's
Report: approved.
Treasurer's
Report:
Committee
Reports:
Negotiations:
- Custodians and Paras will
negotiate this year. George will send out an e-mail
for anyone interested in being on his or her
negotiation teams.
- NJEA has assigned someone to
assist on both teams.
Grievance:
- There is still one
ongoing
- One is still in arbitration
Social:
- The workshop at Flynn's was a
great success. Gordon is thinking of having Pam Niles
bring the whole district a workshop on School Law.
More information will be forthcoming.
Ed Council:
- They haven't met yet this year.
George will keep you posted.
Old
Business:
- State funds:
Phillipsburg has been hit hard by the state, in
getting the funds requested. There is more
information concerning this on our PEA website.
New
Business:
- Demand and Return
System: There are 11 names of teachers,
custodians, and secretaries, who are not yet members
of the PEA, which will be turned over to NJEA. We
first have to set up a Demand & Return System, if
we make a mistake of what should be taken out for
dues, they can demand part, or all of it to be
returned. They have a right to appeal, and if they
win, they get their money returned.
- Motion: A motion was
made to adopt the NJEA procedure for the Demand and
Return System. The motion was approved and passed.
- Climate Survey:
NJEA has a climate survey that we
can use in our district to get a feel of what the
overall climate is. The
information will be totally anonymous. The data will
first be returned to the Executive Committee, who will
then go over the information and put it into a format
that will protect all small groups.
- Motion: To proceed with
the NJEA Climate Survey. The motion was approved
and passed.
- The Executive Committee will
continue to meet at the High School at 3:30.
- A letter was read concerning
comments made by George at the August 28th
meeting, and comments made at a school board meeting.
Many people took offense by some of these comments,
and felt as if he was not representing the teachers in
a positive light. George said that he did not mean to
offend. He does not intend to apologize, because,
first the letter was not signed, and he feels that he
did not say anything that did not need to be said. We
have to police ourselves. Anyone who would like to
attend the Executive Committee meeting, to voice their
concerns, are welcomed to attend.
- If you discuss the new teachers
contract with students in a negative way, you will be
severely disciplined.
Building
concerns:
- Para's extra time: It has been
tentatively agreed that paras will be compensated for
working an extra time. How it will be distributed is
now the question. When more information becomes
available, George will inform us.
- Study groups: George will get
some math teachers and go through the test to make up
some review sheets. Then a few weeks before the paras
go for their test, he will meet with them for
instruction and review work.
- There is discussion on trying
to secure the Paras a bus to take them to the testing
site, since the sites are a distance, and in the
wintertime. More information when it becomes
available.
- More discussion concerning the
teacher's emergency days. You cannot use them for
scheduled surgeries, etc.
- Secretaries are to leave at
their normal scheduled times. They will get
compensation for any extra time.
- NCLB: Andover Morris teachers
and staff have been dealt a blow because of this new
law. They have the full support of this Executive
Committee, and the district. Their teachers, and
support staff are highly qualified, and dedicated
Next meeting November 11,
2003
Respectfully submitted,
Marilyn Shober
