Old Business:

  1. The state still will not finance the teachers raise for anything above 4%.
  2. Thanks to Chuck for getting those voting letters out. At the last meeting we approved $250.00 for stationary and envelopes, it came in at $180.00. They mailed out 700 envelopes. The Board thanked Chuck at the Board meeting.
  3. T-shirts: Joan brought in 2 examples of the golf shirts from the Gold Cup and prices. The color was discussed.

New Business:

  1. Summer Leadership: George has forms for those interested in attending. The deadline is May 20th. There will be two people that will be attending this. Warren County will pay for one.
  2. Non-Tenure Teacher Rights: The date for notification to be re-hired for teachers is May 15th. The school budget comes out May 14th. There are minimal rights for non-tenure teachers. Chuck will try to have this information on-line.
  3. Carol Mertz had information concerning the Legislation Dinner on April 21, 2004 at the Clarion Inn. This is free and you can find out some important information.
  4. George attended a meeting with the Mayor and Judge Ellwood. There is a problem with truancy and Judge Ellwood would like to implement a program where the parents and students will have to attend Saturday morning for counseling and a reading session. They do not have it completely worked out they brought in probation officers and social workers. They would like to start this in May. The town and school district will put in $1,000.00 each. They would like to know if the P.E.A. would like to become a part of this. The only people that would be paid would be the custodians. Chuck made a motion that we give $1,000.00 for this program. It was seconded. We will check with NJEA on the legality of this. The other alternative will be for donations from the staff. The motion was amended to approve giving $1,000.00 for this program pending approval from NJEA. This motion passed.

Building concerns:

  1. Paras who cover for secretaries for the hour lunch should look into if they are being paid the correct amount for this time.
  2. The morning Paras who stayed on the snow day so the afternoon paras would not have to come in, were not allowed to submit a bill form. George will check into this.
  3. If you have to stay for the safety of a student, you will be paid for this.
  4. Part time Paras have already satisfied 2 _ days of their 3 day of workshops. They only owe a half day.

Next meeting May 11, 2004

Respectfully submitted,

Marilyn Shober
