Executive Committee Meeting
Nov. 9, 2004

Secretary's Report: approved

Treasurer's Report:

Committee Reports:

  1. Negotiations:
    1. Paras & Security contracts are finished and awaiting word from board's attorney.
    2. Secretaries have their second meeting tomorrow evening.
    3. Custodians meeting still has to be set.
  2. Grievance: No meeting till January '05.
  3. Social:
    1. Non-members are welcome to the Retirement workshop on Dec. 1 at Flynn's. Cost for non-members will be $10 (motion passed unanimously.)
    2. The date of the retirement dinner is tenatively Thursday, May 26, so as to avoid conflicting with the Top Ten Dinner for all the Warren County high schools.
  4. President's Report: The committee that met with Gordon during the summer has seen results. Discipline was targeted during the four days of in-service training and the administration is negotiating with Mark Foci(?), presenter of one of the discipline workshops, to come back and work with the district. There is a meeting scheduled for this evening to discuss the paperwork issue.

Old Business:

  1. The new Mortgage Program is scheduled to take effect this week.
  2. No word about the webmasters' positions yet.

New Business:

  1. Concerns about teaming were expressed.
  2. Anyone having difficulty meeting the 100 hours requirement is asked to contact George Chilmonik immediately. Failure to meet this requirement by the end of the school year will result in severe discipline.
  3. The district is currently facing a civil rights' lawsuit involving several of our members. Representation is being provided to these members.
  4. George informed us that over 100 applications for membership have been received to date! This brings our membership number to approximately 600. Non-members include 1 teacher, 1 secretary, 2 custodians and 12 aides. All the custodians belong to the Association.

Building concerns:

  1. Two pre-school teachers are out of school because of lice and hand, foot and mouth disease. They were instructed to apply for workman's compensation instead of using their own sick days.
  2. During half days on which parent conferences are held, it was pointed out that the number of student contact hours exceeds what is contractually stipulated. This issue is being investigated.
  3. Custodians no longer have a rep at the Executive meetings. A volunteer is needed to keep the custodians in touch with what is happening.
  4. Custodians are asking how they can attend the NJEA convention when they are scheduled to work.
  5. George has placed two hard copies of the contract in each building. He will also make copies of the salary guides to distribute to the buildings also.
  6. An incident at Green Street involving a student was discussed. George indicated he would talk to the appropriate administrators immediately about the situation.

Next meeting December 14, 2004

Respectfully submitted

Charles Nowalk, Secretary Temp.
