Treasurer's Report: Nadine presented the monthly treasurer's report. Motion to accept the treasurer's report for Jan. 2006 was made (Chuck/Karen). Passed unanimously.

Committee Reports:

  1. WCEA:
    1. Sue Brooks reported on the 'Kaleidoscope' workshops held at Harker's Hollow & Asbury Willows.
  2. Public Relations:
    1. Barb noted nothing is happening with the school district's SOS campaign at this time.
  3. Scholarship:
    1. Joan Ricker noted that the new scholarship form is just about completed and should be available by the beginning of March..
  4. Ed Council:
    1. Chuck reported that the next meeting is scheduled for March 22 at 6:30 at Flynn's on the Hill. Only item on the agenda at this time is the school calendar for 2006-07.
  5. Health & Safety:
    1. Barb is still looking for volunteers for this committee.
  6. Social:
    1. The 'Stress' workshop was great.
    2. Next SOS meeting will be Thursday, March 23 at Flynn's on the Hill.
    3. Retirement workshop will be Thursday, March 23, at Flynn's on the Hill.
    4. 'Heart' workshop will be held at Warren Hospital on Tuesday, Feb. 28, starting at 4 p.m.
    5. Social committee will meet at Freeman School on Thursday, March 9, at 3:30 p.m.
  7. Grievance:
    1. Barb noted one grievance at level 5-6.
  8. Negotiations:
    1. Barb noted that the third session for the teachers' contract negotiations was held on Feb. 16. A lime-green flyer was distributed to all teachers in the district detailing the events of the meeting. The next session is March 16.

Building concerns:

  1. Andover-Morris: The CAPA report is finally public. Discussion ensued about it.
  2. Green St: Second-shift custodians wish to alter their working times from 3-11:30 to 2:30-11. Barb is aware of the issue and the reasons behind the current work schedule. A question was raised about what would happen to the school calendar if we do not use up the two snow days currently built into the school calendar. Ed Council will probably decide this issue either at its March or May meeting.
  3. Early Childhood: Still no evacuation plan available.
  4. Freeman: There is now a bathroom for the males. Next concern: a door-card swipe.
  5. Barber: Query over using emergency days for bereavement leave: answer is 'no'.

Old Business:

  1. Sick Bank: Barb noted that she had received an e-mail from Jared Helms thanking her and everyone else involved with the creation of the 'Sick Bank'. Barb once again encouraged everyone to consider donating a personal day to the 'Sick Bank' in order to assist Jared and anyone else who might be in a similar situation.
  2. DYFS Reporting Document: There is an updated version of this new form (12/06). Barb has asked Gordon for a meeting with the counselors to discuss their concerns. Bob Pierfy is compiling a checklist.
  3. Retirement Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 'The Almond Tree' restaurant in Alpha.
  4. The PEA is 50 years old in 2006. A new logo for our stationery was designed by Bob Jiorle, PHS art teacher, and generated on the computer by Isaac Calvo, PHS student. Click here to view the new logo.

New Business:

  1. Retirement Workshop will be held on Thursday, March 23, at Flynn's on the Hill for those close to retirement and for those who have longer to go. Motion to charge non-PEA members $10 was made by Rick Rissmiller and seconded by Karen Bodine. Passed unanimously.
  2. Jenn Ostile reported on the WCEA 'Passing the School Budget' workshop held last week at the Asbury Willows.
  3. Chuck Nowalk reported on a two-day conference for the Abbott districts he attended last week with district administrators. The state has a lot more paperwork and designs in mind for the Abbott districts to implement for the 2006-07 school year. More news will be forthcoming.
