Committee Reports:

  1. WCEA:
    1. Executive committee meeting is Wed., March 15. Volunteers interested in attending should contact Barb.
  2. Public Relations:
    1. Barb noted the school district has contacted her and requested that the PEA pass a resolution supporting the construction of the new Phillipsburg High School. More details will follow.
  3. Scholarship:
    1. Joan Ricker noted that the new scholarship form is now available and encourages anyone who knows a worthy PHS senior student to contact the guidance office for an application.
  4. Ed Council:
    1. Chuck reported that the next meeting is scheduled for March 22 at 6:30 at Flynn's on the Hill. Only item on the agenda at this time is the school calendar for 2006-07.
  5. Health & Safety:
    1. Barb and Marilyn are in the process of organizing and are looking for volunteers - especially custodial/maintenance personnel.
  6. Social:
    1. The 'Heart' workshop was great.
    2. Next SOS meeting and 'Retirement' workshop will be Thursday, March 23, at Flynn's on the Hill. Friday, March 17, is the last day to register for these workshops. This 'Retirement' workshop is for both older & younger members. Topics of interest specifically directed to the two groups (younger members/older members) will be made available and discussed.
    3. 'Deli' trip into NYC on May 7. Look for details in your e-mail.
    4. Social committee will meet at Freeman School tomorrow.
  7. Grievance:
    1. Barb noted one grievance at level 5-6.
    2. A possible grievance over starting/ending times for Early Childhood staff was discussed.

    1. Barb noted that the next session for the teachers' contract negotiations will be held on March 16.

Building concerns:

  1. Andover-Morris: 'Dress Down' day was discussed.

  3. Green St: A query about mileage reimbursement was discussed.
  4. Early Childhood: A need for another secretary and social worker exists. A problem with retaining para-professionals was noted.
  5. Freeman: When's breakfast? (Freeman School had the highest percentage of people attend the February 'Heart' workshop and therefore won the rights to an early morning breakfast provided and served by the PEA Executive Officers.)

Old Business:

  1. CAPA Report: Barb distributed copies of Andover-Morris' CAPA report. It will not only affect Andover-Morris directly but the middle school and Barber School and eventually will impact all the schools in the district.
  2. Contracts: Barb provided paper copies of the contracts for the para-professionals, security guards, custodians & maintenance personnel & the secretaries. Reps are asked to print copies of the teachers' contract via the PEA website and at the next meeting, Barb will provide the salary guides.
  3. Sick Bank: There are only a few days left in the Sick Bank. If you can, please donate a personal day to the Sick Bank ASAP.
  4. Retirement Dinner is scheduled for Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 'The Almond Tree' restaurant in Alpha.
  5. The PEA is 50 years old in 2006. A new logo for our stationery was designed by Bob Jiorle, PHS art teacher, and generated on the computer by Isaac Calvo, PHS student. Click here to view the new logo.

New Business:

  1. NEA Convention will be held in Orlando, FL this year sometime near the beginning of July. Individuals interested in attending are asked to contact Barb.
  2. WCEA 'Legislative Dinner' will be held on April 5 at the Harkers Hollow Golf Club. Individuals interested in attending are asked to contact Marilyn.
