Envelopes Stuffing: The first 30-45 minutes of the meeting were utilized to stuff, lick, paste & stamp the 697 school budget letters and envelopes that will go to every NJEA member living in the Phillipsburg area.

Treasurer's Report: Nadine presented the monthly treasurer's report. Motion to accept the treasurer's report for the previous month was made (Deb/Brenda). Passed unanimously.

Secretary's Report: Motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting was made (Nadine/Brenda). Passed unanimously.

Committee Reports:

  1. BATS:
    1. Elaine Strahle shared her impressions of the last board meeting she attended.
  2. WCEA:
    1. Sue Brooks reported on the 'Legislative Dinner' held recently at Harkers Hollow Golf Course.
  3. Public Relations:
    1. The PEA passed a resolution in favor of saving the new high school. Chuck made the motion to approve and adopt said resolution. Rick seconded. Passed unanimously.
  4. Scholarship:
    1. Chuck noted that 24 students have obtained a scholarship form from guidance as of today. None have been returned. May 11 is the deadline for turning in the scholarship forms. Encourage any worthy senior students to apply for the PEA Scholarship in guidance.
  5. Ed Council:
    1. Chuck reported that some discussion on the 2006-07 school calendar ensued but no decisions have been made.
  6. Health & Safety:
    1. Barb and Marilyn are in the process of organizing and are looking for volunteers - especially custodial/maintenance personnel.
  7. Social:
    1. 'Retirement Dinner' is Thursday, May 25, at The Almond Tree Restaurant in Alpha. Send checks to Nadine Anderson at Special Services and names/numbers of those attending to Deb Carty at Freeman.
    2. Next SOS will be held before May 15 - TBA.
  8. Grievance:
    1. Barb noted one grievance at level 5-6.
    2. The administration has institiuted a trial period for the ECC starting and ending times This should continue after April and help avert a grievance being filed.
  9. Negotiations:
    1. Barb noted that the next session for the teachers' contract negotiations is this evening.

Building concerns:

  1. Green St.: Concerns over field trip procedures.
  2. Early Childhood: Sub concerns.
  3. High School: Dress code for staff.

Old Business:

  1. Contracts: Reps are asked to print copies of the teachers' contract via the PEA website, Barb provided the salary guides at today's meeting.
  2. Sick Bank: There are only a few days left in the Sick Bank. If you can, please donate a personal day to the Sick Bank ASAP.
  3. Professional Learning Communities: Barb received word from George Chando that schools have till November, not May, to turn in their building PD plans. A reminder to all SLC members not to agree to meet after contractually agreed-upon times. Insist that these meetings take place during the normal school hours.
  4. SLC-Abbott Workshop: Meet on Saturday, May 6. See Barb for more details.

New Business:

  1. NEA Convention will be held in Orlando, FL this year sometime near the beginning of July. Mike Kruczek is the only individual who has expressed interest in attending.
  2. May 15 is the last day the administration can inform non-tenured personnel they will not be rehired for next year.
  3. Summer Leadership Workshops - Contact Barb if you are interested in attending.
  4. Restraint Training - The administration is looking into restraint training. Key people may be trained and certified and then turnkey this training.
