Treasurer's Report: Nadine presented the treasurer's report for the month of November and a second report detailing the balances since 1999. Motion to accept the treasurer's reports as presented, noting that the two $52 expenses are not suppose to be in the 'flowthru' column of the extension section of the spreadsheet, was made by Chuck and seconded by Ann. Passed unanimously.

Secretary's Report: Motion to accept the minutes of the November 7, 2006 meeting was made by Linda and seconded by Ann. Passed unanimously.

Committee Reports:

  1. Membership:
    1. Members are encouraged to update their data on the NJEA MARS database by logging into the NJEA website.
  2. Scholarship:
    1. Ann volunteered to check if the PEA t-shirts have come in yet.
  3. Ed Council:
    1. Next meeting is Wed., Feb. 28, at 6p.m. at Flynn's on the Hill. Barb asked ARs to verify that every building has a rep present and to inform her whom it is. Also please inform Barb of any issues you wish to bring up to the Ed Council ahead of time.
  4. Health & Safety:
    1. Barb reported that NJEA has okayed funds for an industrial hygenist for the high school in addition to the Early Childhood Center.
  5. WCEA:
    1. Sue Brooks informed us that the next meeting will be Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. at Harkers Hollow.
  6. Social:

    2. The Retirement Dinner will be Thursday, May 24.
  7. Grievance:
    1. The grievance currently at the board level awaits information from the board's attorney.
  8. Negotiations:
    1. Teachers are still at impasse. An Action Committee has been formed and anticipates a long, drawn-out process. The Action Committee is asking all members to wear blue or black on our next pay days, Dec.. 15 & 22, as a show of unity and support for our negotiations team.
    2. Barb also asked all members - teachers, secretaries, security guards, custodians & paras - to attend the next board meeting on Monday, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the middle school.
    3. Elaine Strahle informed us that the paras' survey was sent out and compiled in their negotiations process. Proposals are currently being developed.
    4. The security negotiations team has a meeting scheduled for Monday, Dec. 18.
  9. Legislative:
    1. Nadine reported on the cyber-lobbying campaign held by the PEA on Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day. She also reported on the 'Back Off' rally held in Trenton on Monday, Dec. 11.

Building concerns:

  1. The high school experienced a two-hour lockdown today due to a student bringing in a paintball gun. Concerns about security at all our schools and the need for keys was discussed. It was reported that the district is considering a keypad system for every door in the district. Cost will be a major factor.
  2. Early Childhood noted that it has no lockdown procedure. A concern about notifying the paras in advance about PD workshops was expressed.
  3. Green St. School will be sponsoring the district's Spelling Bee again this year with a $500 PRIDE grant from NJEA. Permission was given for additional expenditures ( in the neighborhood of $50-$100) for the spelling bee by the Executive Committee.

Old Business:

None.

New Business:

  1. Motion to create a Finance committee was made by Nadine and seconded by Chuck. Discussion ensued. Passed unanimously. Barb appointed Melissa Fey as chairperson.
  2. Barb noted that she would ask the Executive Committee to consider forming PR & PD committees in January in accordance with the PEA Constitution.
  3. Barb asked members to consider whether a 'Pension' workshop, similar to last year's, should be offered again this year. This issue will be revisited in January.
