Treasurer's Report: Motion to accept the treasurer's report for the month of April 2007 was made by Chuck and seconded by Deb C. Passed unanimously.

Committee Reports:

  1. Membership:
    1. Any new members in your building? Remember to recruit them for membership into the Association. Membership application forms can be obtained from Gail Barbadora at Green St. School.
    2. Joann Bonnville will take over as membership chairperson for Gail after June 30 of this year when Gail retires.
  2. Scholarship:
    1. Joan noted that the committee will meet Tuesday, May 15, at Flynn's to select this year's winners.
    2. Joan also reported on the recent purchase of more t-shirts.
  3. Ed Council:
    1. The next meeting is Wed., May 16, at 6 p.m. at Flynn's on the Hill.
    2. Andover-Morris & PASS both need representatives for their buildings to attend Ed Council.
    3. Members attending should inform Barb of any issues they would like to present to the Ed Council.
  4. Health & Safety:
    1. Meeting May 15.
    2. PHS and ECLC should continue with your journals.
  5. WCEA:
    1. Everyone should check your e-mails for workshop info.
  6. Social:
    1. Deb C. noted that the Deli Trip was a success - again.
    2. The Retirement Dinner will be Thursday, May 24. 15 retirees will be recognized. Forms and money must be turned into your building rep by Wednesday, May 16. Click here to download a form.

    1. All grievances are settled at this time.
  8. Negotiations:
    1. No progress to report on paras & security guards negotiations.
    2. Barb reported that the teachers negotiations are now at the Fact Finding level. First meeting is scheduled for May 31.
    3. Barb presented a check for $450 to PHS Student Council VP at April 30 board meeting for Almost Anything Goes charity.
    4. Jenn Nester reported for the Action Committee. A place for the tailgating party, to be held to show support for our negotiators, has yet to be determined. Places suggested include the Armory, Aharts, & NORWESCAP. A Pizza/Poster party will be held the week before on Monday, May 21. More details will follow.
  9. Legislative:
    1. Chuck noted that letters to over 700 NJEA members asking them to vote in favor of their local school budgets resulted in 6 of 7 local budgets being passed. Only Phillipsburg's budget failed to pass.
  10. Finance:
    1. The Finance Committee met last Thursday, May 3. It will meet the Thursday before each Executive Committee to review the Treasurer's report and work on other items concerning the Association's finances.
  11. PD:
    1. Chuck noted that the district's LPDC has not met since November.
    2. A PD workshop sponsored by NJEA will be held on Monday, May 14. Barb, Chuck, and Ryanne Bigelli will attend.

Building Concerns:

  1. Freeman noted that it is still concerned about the lack of a district policy when the temperature gets very hot.
  2. Special Services suggested that we all frame our diploma(s) and then hang them on the classroom walls.
  3. Reports from Andover-Morris of a groundhog hissing at Joan Ricker were acknowledged.
  4. Green St. School had concerns about field trips that started before regular school time, arrived after regular school closing time, and the loss of prep time due to field trips. Barb informed them that they should fill out billforms for such times. Preferably one billform for the additional time before and after regular school hours and another billform for the loss of prep time. The additional time, and missed prep time, should be compensated at the current professional rate.

Old Business:

  1. Barb will appoint a committee to look at the proposed constitutional amendment to the PEA by-laws stipulating the requirements for a quorum.
  2. Two members from the high school have signed up to attend summer leadership workshops. Anyone else interested should contact Barb by Wednesday, May 15, at the latest.
  3. The NEA Convention will held in Philadelphia, PA, this year. Mike Kruczek will be attending.

New Business:

  1. Barb noted that members who will attain one of the longevity steps next year should submit the necessary form to Jane Scheetz at the board office before the end of this school year. This will assist the district in budgeting for next year. Click here to download the form.
  2. May 15 is the state-wide deadline for informing non-tenured personnel whether they will not be returning for the 2007-08 school year.
  3. Nadine noted that the Association is liable to pay taxes on any purchases it makes.
  4. Discussion about PEA t-shirts and collared-shirts ensued. Motion to have the t-shirt committee chairperson ask the Gold Cup to loan us free samples, without any silk screening, in a variety of sizes for display to our members was made by Nadine and seconded by Linda F. Passed unanimously. The scholarship committee was asked to design a form for ordering the t-shirts after it finishes selecting the scholarship winners next week.
