Committee Reports:

  1. Membership:
    1. Barb asked building reps to contact Joann Bonnville for membership applications or any other needs related to membership.
  2. Ed Council:
    1. Barb reported that the next meeting date has been changed to Wednesday, February 3, at 6:00 p.m. at the board office.
  3. Health & Safety:
    1. Need someone to chair this important committee.
    2. Need a high school rep who is willing to keep an eye on the new building. Training will be provided.
  4. WCEA:
    1. WCEA Rep Council is Wednesday, January 20, at Bellisimo on Route 519.
  5. Social:
    1. Jo Bononno reported that this year's Retirement Dinner Celebration will be held at the Green Pond Country Club on Thursday, May 27. More details will follow. Set this date aside on your calendars!
  6. Scholarship:
    1. Joan Ricker noted there was nothing new to report.
  7. Grievance:
    1. Barb reported that an arbitrator has been assigned to one grievance, the board received an extension on the hearing about the confidential secretary, and there was no progress to report on the FMLA situation.
  8. Negotiations:
    1. Deb S. reported that the first meeting with a mediator for the teachers will take place on Wednesday, February 17.

  9. Legislative:
    1. Chuck reported that the board of education had applied for the 'Race to the Top' federal grant program last night. NJEA is advising all locals not to sign off on the application because of the number of strings attached that would negatively impact our students and staff.
    2. John Corzine will be governor of NJ for only a short time and then Chris Christie will take over. Expect changes!
  10. Finance:
    1. No report.
  11. PD:
    1. No report.

Building concerns:

  1. PHS - A special education teacher has been reassigned from the high school to Barber Elementary School. Two teachers have been asked to give up their preps for other duties for the second semester. They will be recompensed accordingly.
  2. PMS - Teachers are asked to escort students from lunch back to class. Some teachers are leaving their lunch break before their 22 minutes are up to meet with students in the commons..
  3. Special Services - Heating concerns within the building reported.
  4. Freeman - The clocks are all off.
  5. Early Childhood - Staff are being pulled for Tracker Training. Report card training is scheduled at a faculty meeting instead of during an in-service day. Anyone know anyone who offers 'Restraint Training'?

Old Business:

  1. Mr. Miller has decided that staff members should have access only to their own building via their ID card.

New Business:

  1. Ann Ball informed us that monies for PRIDE grants have been frozen by NJEA at this time. She will monitor the situation closely.
  2. The NJEA ESP conference is scheduled for the end of February. Any ESP staff members who are interested in attending are asked to contact Barb.
