PHILLIPSBURG | After a sleepless Saturday night, Kenneth Matlock on Sunday afternoon remembered his younger daughter as a fan of classic music and classic cars.

"There are so many memories of all the good times we had together," he said a day after his daughter, Amber, 15, of Phillipsburg, and Charles J. Slack III, 18, of Alpha, were killed when the car in which they were traveling crossed the Route 22 median and slammed into a bus. "She's going to be missed."

She was a special, happy teen who had a close relationship with her parents, especially her mother, Vicky, he said.

In between her schoolwork and her part-time job at the Dunkin' Donuts, she found time to volunteer at her family's church, Wesley United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg.

The Dunkin' Donuts closed operations Sunday in memory of Amber Lynn Matlock, her father said.

She had a passion for old music, and a poster of Elvis Presley hangs in her room.

"She loved Frank Sinatra," he said.

She also loved classic cars, particularly 1950s Cadillacs, and Kenneth Matlock said he planned to buy her one some day.

Joann Hassan, Slack's aunt, said Saturday night that he was skilled in auto mechanics and worked at Judy's Auto Repair in Phillipsburg.

Slack was a "really great kid -- just all heart," Hassan said Saturday. "And we're going to miss him."

The teen graduated one year early in 2005. He enjoyed hunting, camping, snowboarding, four-wheeling, motorcycles and "simply enjoyed life," according to his obituary.

Kenneth Matlock said he thought Slack was driving Saturday afternoon.

Police on Sunday afternoon could not provide any information as to the crash or who was driving, and said further information would not be available until the investigation is complete.

Slack's funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Finegan Funeral Home in Alpha. Interment will be at the Stewartsville Lutheran Cemetery in Stewartsville, Greenwich Township.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Matlock's funeral will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Phillipsburg.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Rupell Funeral Home in Phillipsburg. The burial will be at the Fairmount Cemetery in Phillipsburg.
