PHILLIPSBURG | Town council is gearing up
for a court fight if Warren County Technical School
officials do not provide requested information.
Council filed an Open Public Records Act
application through town Attorney Howard Vex on Dec. 6 for
10 items from the school, including meeting
minutes.
The information was requested so council
could investigate the school board's claim that charging
tuition is necessary.
The technical school board voted in
October to institute tuition charges. About 52 percent of
the school's budget is paid for by the county tax. The
remainder is funded with state aid and grants. But next
fall, the school board wants municipalities that send
students to the school to chip in.
Phillipsburg sends 74 students to the
technical high school, about one-fifth of the student
body.
Tuesday night, Vex said the school had
only provided three items, and said one requested item was
not appropriate.
Council Vice President David DeGerolamo
said if the school does not provide the additional
information by Feb. 21, Vex should come to council's meeting
with a legal action plan.
