PHILLIPSBURG | After almost seven years
with the school district, Director of Security James P.
Stettner has given his two-weeks notice.
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge
Commission named Stettner as its first director of security,
safety and training Feb. 27. Stettner will earn $78,065 a
year in his new position.
Stettner said March 19 will be his last
day with the school district, and March 20 will be his first
day with the bridge commission.
"I'm looking forward to it. It's
something different, a challenge," Stettner said
Tuesday.
Stettner has served as the district's
security director since 1999. Before that he served on the
Phillipsburg Police Department for 25 years, eventually
retiring as chief. He also worked for New Jersey State
Police and served in the Army.
As security director, Stettner will be
responsible for implementing the commission's safety
policies and procedures, communicating with state police,
planning employee emergency training and conducting safety
inspections.
The commission, which is composed of five
governor-appointed members each from Pennsylvania and New
Jersey, operates 20 bridges between Trenton and the New York
border.
Stettner said his first few weeks in the
new position will be spent looking at policies and
procedures.
Stettner is the third town councilman to
be associated with the commission. Council Vice President
David DeGerolamo became a commissioner in January and
council President James Shelley has worked as a bridge
commission toll collector for years.
Stettner said there are very few
commission issues that come before council, but if there is
a conflict of interest he would abstain from voting on those
issues.
