S u m m e r    H a p p e n i n g s - July 2005

• July 1 saw the transition of offices for President Barb Alderfer (PMS), Vice-President Deb Carty (Freeman), Recording Secretary Charles Nowalk (PHS) and Corresponding Secretary Marilyn Shober (Para). Nadine Anderson (Special Services) was reelected as Treasurer.
•  The NEA Representative Assembly convention was held in Los Angeles from July 1-6. PEA attendees were Mike Kruczek and Carol Mertz. Click here to review some of the highlights of this year's convention.

• Legislation to remove Phillipsburg's Abbott designation was introduced in the NJ legislature in the beginning of July. Click here to read about this important development.
• More testing is on the way - if the state gets its way. Proposed testing for grades 5, 6 & 7 are included in this new initiative. Click here to read more about this NCLB-driven development.
• NJEA & NJREA members rallied in Trenton on Wednesday, July 20, to protect our pensions. Click here to read more.

• Phillipsburg's Ole Towne Festival was held the weekend of July 22-24. As usual, Cindy Perio, Green St. librarian, made certain that the PEA was well-represented at this annual event.
• The SCC announced it had run out of money and could only continue 59 of approx. 200 school-based projects. The new PHS and renovations for Andover-Morris were NOT included among the 59 projects. Click here for more details.
